Funding for arts programs in Florida's public schools is dwindling, and we want to change this before it's too late. A well-rounded education is vital to creating responsible, productive adults. And for many students, their only chance to learn about art is in school. Arts programs in elementary school build a foundation of understanding that allows children to explore their creativity and become more successful students. According to research from The President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, schools that include arts programs are generally better overall and offer more challenges for students. In another study from the Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development, students who participated in organized activities such as arts programs were found to be significantly less likely than non-participants to drop out of school, be arrested, or engage in risky behavior like drug and alcohol abuse. As a legislator, you have the power to set aside money for the arts in Florida's public schools.
